miss our old house

Published by B under Forgotten

I miss our old house in Malabon where I grew up. I remember we were neighbors with my aunt and uncle and my grandma, we called her nanay, lived with them. That’s me on the photo above, second girl from the left, my two cousins beside me and my sister on the far right. The photo was taken from our front yard and my cousins’ house was on the right side. I also have two more cousins who are boys who were not on the photo.

Nanay was very strict when it comes to our playmates and we weren’t allowed to play on the street so my sister, cousins and I were stuck with each other. Good thing we had this huge backyard where we played piko, chinese garter, and the pinoy kids’ version of football where you will roll the ball (like in bowling) then the kid on the other side would kick it and then the roller would run around the diamond while the kicker chased the ball, it’s more like baseball actually. And we have a gate at our backyard leading to my cousins’ backyard so we didn’t to go out anymore. It’s just sad that we didn’t really had childhood playmates but we really had a lot of fun playing with each other. I remember, also when it’s raining, we would go to the backyard and ran from one end and slide on the grass until we reach the other end. And we wouldn’t stop until it gets really muddy.

Malabon is known for being flooded when the tide is high and almost every household there owns a calendar with high tide schedules. Our subdivision was surrounded by a river and the streets got flooded whenever the tide was high. I remember my uncle made us a boat so we could paddle around our street whenever there was flood then we would catch fish (guppies) using dust pans. We then would put them in a basin and leave them there for a couple of days. Sometimes we would catch a preggy fish then we would just find baby guppies on the basin the next day. It was really fun!

In our garage, my dad has a small garden where the ground was filled with small pebbles. We would carve small streets from the pebbles and create a small village. Then we would build our own lego houses and cars and play there for hours. When it’s raining, we would play market inside the house. We would get different kinds of leaves from my dad’s garden and pretend they’re vegetables. Then my sister would cut newspapers and write denominations on it and used it as our play money.

I remember also my cousins had a small bahay kubo (nipa hut) in their backyard with a window facing our backyard. Remember those nylon folding beds? We put it on the window of the hut and we used it to slide down to our backyard. Then we would run again to the hut and slide again. Haha!

We really had to be imaginative then since we weren’t allowed to play outside with other kids. It was really memorable and I miss it! Those were the days…

view of my desktop

Published by B under Tags n Memes

Got a tag from Caryl and here’s a preview of my desktop. I saw this photo of Apo Island on the net and snagged it and made it my wallpaper. I really love beaches and this wallpaper motivates me to save money for my trip to Coron next year. About the icons, well normally I don’t like having any icons on my desktop except for the recycle bin, but since I’m so busy these days, I have no more time to tidy up my desktop. Actually I’m more lazy than busy. LOL! So there you go… I’m not gonna tag anyone… go ahead and tag yourselves if you like this. :)

Note: Copy Starts Here!

Desktop Free View Instruction:

A.Upon receiving this tag, immediately perform a screen capture of your desktop. It is best that no icons be deleted before the screen capture so as to add to the element of fun. You can do a screen capture by:

[1] Going to your desktop and pressing the Print Scrn key (located on the right side of the F12 key).
[2] Open a graphics program (like Picture Manager, Paint, or Photoshop) and do a Paste (CTRL + V).
[3] If you wish, you can “edit” the image, before saving it.

For MAC users: Press  [ Shift ] and [ 3 ]

B. Post the picture in your blog. You can also give a short explanation on the look of your desktop just below it if you want. You can explain why you preferred such look or why is it full of Icons, things like that.

C. Tag five of your friends and ask them to give you a Free View of their desktop as well.

D. Add your name to this list of Free Viewers with a link pointing directly to your Desktop Free View post to promote it to succeeding participants.

13 choruses

Published by B under Thursday Thirteen

Since I’m organizing my MP3s right now, my Thursday Thirteen will be choruses from 13 songs on my desktop right now. I like these songs and hope you’ll like them too! :)

1] Later by Fra Lippo Lippi
It’s too late to start pretending
It’s too late for a new beginning
Later than the sunset, later than the rain
Later than never to love you again

2] Wasting Time by Jack Johnson
But everybody thinks that everybody knows about everybody else
Nobody knows anything about themselves
Cause they’re all worried about everybody else

3] Closer To Fine by Indigo Girls
I went to the doctor, I went to the mountains
I looked to the children, I drank from the fountains
There’s more than one answer to these questions
Pointing me in a crooked line
And the less I seek my source for some definitive
The closer I am to fine, the closer I am to fine

4] You Don’t See Me by Josie and the Pussycats
Cause you don’t see me and you don’t need me
And you don’t love me the way I wish you would
The way I know you could

5] Landslide by Fleetwood Mac
Well I’ve been afraid of changing cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder, even children get older
And I’m getting older too

6] Bigmouth Strikes Again by The Smiths
Bigmouth, la la la… bigmouth, la la la…
Bigmouth strikes again
And I’ve got no right to take my place
With the human race

7] So Much In Love by Sheena Easton
The only love I ever wanted is gone forever
I can never put my world together
So much in love, I know you’ll never come back to me
Love doesn’t come to you every minute
If you hold back someone else will win it
If you gotta love put your heart right in it
Never set it free

8] Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz
But what I really want to know is
Are you gonna go my way?
and I got to, got to know

9] Running by No Doubt
Running, running as fast as we can
Do you think we’ll make it
We’re running, keep holding my hand
So we don’t get separated

10] I Don’t Like Mondays by Boomtown Rats
Tell me why I don’t like Mondays
Tell me why I don’t like Mondays
Tell me why I don’t like Mondays
I wanna shoo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oot the whole day down

11] Plush by Stone Temple Pilots
And I feel it
And I feel it
Where you going for tomorrow?
Where you going with that mask I found?
And I feel, and I feel when the dogs begin to smell her
Will she smell alone?

12] Sunlight by Michael Tomlinson
As love grows we both know the world has changed
Somehow we’ve been rearranged
I knew love would come if we just let go
But love like this I’ve never known
Sunlight will find a way
Sunlight will find a way

13] Alive And Kicking by Simple Minds
Alive and kicking
Stay until your love is alive and kicking
Stay until your love is, until your love is alive

Happy singing! Happy Thursday Thirteen!

4 boxes of pizzas

Published by B under Forgotten

We just finished eating pizzas from Pizza Hut. It’s been awhile since we last ate pizza from Pizza Hut and our Palm Card is going to expire next month already so we’ve decided to have pizzas tonight. We ordered about 10 minutes before 10 p.m. thinking that it’d be here just in time when my sister and my niece arrive from the mall. When they arrived, guess what they brought for us… two boxes of Pizza Hut! LOL! Now we have four boxes of Pizza Hut! We didn’t even finish two boxes so there’ll be lots more for tomorrow. I was actually craving for a burger that’s why I didn’t eat lots of pizza. I think I only had a couple of slices and I’m still craving for burger. And now I’m guessing we won’t be ordering from Pizza Hut for awhile.

rak

Published by B under Forgotten

Animo La Salle!

Haha! Yeah I just have to do that because the Green Archers won against the Blue Eagles the other day at the UAAP! Anyway, I have a little RAK over at my digital scrapbooking blog, so go and check it out, you might want to participate.

So, I didn’t push through with organizing my digital scrapbooking stuff with the use of ACDSEE. It’s just too time consuming and my computer’s running out of memory whenever I open Photoshop so I had to uninstall some programs that aren’t really necessary to free up some space. But I still plan to do it but maybe when I already have a brand new computer. So I’m back to organizing with just the use of previews and it’ll have to do, at least for the meantime. And since I’m an OC (I just think so), I’ve decided to organize my MP3s. Well, not really organize but I’ve decided to mix them. See, I have about 14 CDs full of MP3s and it’s organized in a way that this CD contains only OPM music, then the other one is latin, then that one is rock and this is mellow. Well, It’s hard to do that because I have to wait till one genre reaches 700 mb before I can burn it into a CD and it’s taking too much space on my HD. And it’s hard to categorize them according to genre because every single song has it’s own genre and every artist can cover more than one genre and it’s just too complicated. So I just mixed them all up and this time I’m including the title of the albums the songs came from and the year it was released. So far I’m done with one CD so 13 more to go! Yay! Go me! Haha! Besides it’s more fun listening to different types of song than just pure rock or mellow or house music (which gives me headache). So, am I an OC or what? :)

By the way, I update my Special Memory post to add a picture of Robert and me. It’s an old photo which I just scanned so it’s not that clear. And we look too dark on that cause we just came from the beach and a couple more outdoor trips.

Walang Tao Dito

Published by B under Song for the week

by Jimmy Bondoc

Pusong mamon, utak bato

“Tao po” sabi sa kin ng pag-asa
“Pasok ka” sabi ng tanga kong kaluluwa
Dati na kong napahiya ngunit hindi nagtanda
Bantay pare, doble hiya

“Tao po” sabi ng babae sa kin
“Pasok ka” kahi na alam kong aalis din
Kahit na sumpa kong di kakapit at luluha
Kapit tuko, iyak bata

“Tao po” sabi ng babae sa kin
“Pasok ka” sabi ng utak kong gago din
Dyan ka lang kuha lang ako ng makakain
Pagbalik kumpare kong kumain

——————–

First time I heard Jimmy Bondoc sing, I just graduated from High School and a couple of my friends from Assumption Antipolo were talking about this song for Mikee Cojuangco. One of them actually had a copy of the song in a cassette tape, together with a couple of others also sung by Jimmy Bondoc, and she lent it to me so I could listen to it. I really liked it and found myself tuning in to RX93 to hear Jimmy, together with his band, sing live on the radio. I really like the way he plays the guitar and the quality of his voice. I especially loved it when he sang Alive and Kicking by Simple Minds one time on the radio. I recently found out that a couple of the songs from my friend’s cassette tape was included in his first album. I’m so sad cause I tried getting a copy but couldn’t find one anymore. Anyway, here’s one of his latest single and it tells the story of my life… love life, that is. Enjoy!

ice ice baby

Published by B under Forgotten

The weather these past few days has been hot and humid. It actually felt like summer. Good thing it’s starting to rain again at night or in the afternoon. But yesterday afternoon was weird. I was showing my niece the rain outside my window when the spatter of the rain became louder. When I looked closely I saw that it was raining ice! The view from my bedroom window is our neighbor’s roof so you can imagine how loud it was. So my niece and I went to her dad, who was in my nephew’s room, to tell him about it. We all looked out the veranda and saw bits of ice floating on the rainwater. I was really amazed because it was the first time I saw rain with ice. Weird!

It looks like it’s going to rain again today. If it happens again, promise that I’ll take a pic!

Love Me Still

Published by B under Song for the week

by Louise Setara

Here is my hand for you to hold
Here’s the part of me they have not sold
I’ve wandered far, I’ve had my fill
I need you now, do you love me still

Only you have seen the hidden part of me
Call me foolhardy if you will
But I loved you when, do you love me still

So many smiles and lies surround me
Empty expectations, faceless fears
Sometimes this life is a bitter pill
I love you now, do you love me still

You have been mine since time untold
Our love is immortal, don’t you know
Others will come, and they will go
But I loved you young, I love you old

Only you have seen, the other side of me
Call me naive, I think you will
But I loved you then, do you love me still

Here are the eyes that only see you
Here is the mouth that only calls your name
Here is the soul that can not kill
I love you now, do you love me still

——————–

Two wonderful people are celebrating their birthdays today… Happy Birthday Kuya Edgar! Happy Birthday Armin! The song for this week is dedicated to one of the celebrants. The first time I saw him, I got attracted to him not knowing that he was one of my blockmates during college. I first saw him way back 1993 on enrollment day, I was with my mom and he was with his sister. We have a long story (maybe I’ll tell it here someday) and the lines on the song are true, but the “I love you” part is more on the friendship aspect now. Hope you’ll all like the song. Try listening also to the original version by Chaka Khan, sounds more romantic for me.

proposal

Published by B under Forgotten

Nothing much happened this week and I just stayed home all weekend. But I got a proposal from a friend. Nope, not marriage proposal. Haha! Business proposal that is. It is not definite yet but I’m really very excited about it. It has got something to do with designing, my part that is, but I’m not going to elaborate on it right now so as not to jinx it. I really hope this will be a big break for us and I’m willing to put all my energy on it. Wish me luck!

On to another story, the Ateneo Blue Eagles beat the Green Archers in the UAAP elimination rounds. Hay buhay! I remember in college we only watched very few live UAAP games because everytime we did we noticed that La Salle loses. We thought it was bad luck so to prevent our team from losing again, we just watched the games at home. Haha! Anyway, win or lose I’m with my team till the end. Animo La Salle!
